Chapel of the Angels Mausoleum

From India's Taj Mahal to the grand Pyramids of Egypt, the mausoleum is a time-honored custom of above-ground entombment. People of different ages and faiths, from all walks of life, are realizing the wisdom and dignity of selecting a mausoleum as their final resting place. In the Pittsburgh area, they choose the new Chapel of the Angels Mausoleum at Allegheny Cemetery.

This mausoleum is filled with natural light through a stained glass atrium in the center of the building. Sculpted bronze angels adorn the front of the building and bronze crypt fronts of custom-designed angels highlight the inside of the mausoleum.

The selection of a final resting place is a sacred family duty that, sooner or later, must be fulfilled. It's much better to meet this inevitable obligation now, while members of your family are together, than to postpone it until the confused, lonely hour of bereavement.

This beautiful and inspiring Chapel of the Angels is available for memorial services and private meditation. Its natural lighting and patterned granite floor create a sacred and reflective atmosphere for year-round visitation by family and friends. Visitors will find the chapel filled with the warmth of bronze crypt fronts depicting angels that can be selected for memorialization.

Facts on the Chapel of the Angels Mausoleum

The Chapel of the Angels Mausoleum opened October 2002 after two years of construction at a cost exceeding one million dollars.

Flanking each side of the entrance to the Mausoleum are Trumpeting "Angels" to welcome visitors. These Angels adorn the premium 48 NICHES available for cremated remains. The Angel designs are "life sized", measuring eight feet tall by four feet wide.

There are two additional "life sized" Angels, in a forest-garden setting, mounted on the interior presenting walls of the Mausoleum. These Angels are twelve foot square and are culled from the work of art historians researching Seraphim and Cherubim in Renaissance and Victorian Art. The interior Bronze Angels guard the 1,036 CRYPTS in the building.

All four Angels were designed and created by the design staff of Matthews International Corporation - an internationally renown bronze casting company headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA.

The building features a five-color granite and marble Compass Rose on the interior floor and an octagonal, wood planked dome ceiling with five Skylights above the Chapel.
